Hygiene Officer

The role is built around inspection rounds, written reports and coordination with other departments.

Responsibilities

• Inspects kitchens, food outlets, storage areas and the staff cafeteria on a regular basis
• Checks food storage, labeling, temperature control, expiry dates and handling practices
• Holds the hotel to HACCP principles and the applicable food safety regulations
• Oversees cleaning, sanitation, waste management and pest control procedures
• Spots hygiene risks and takes corrective actions up with the departments involved
• Documents inspections in accurate hygiene reports and related records
• Briefs staff on hygiene and food safety, and assists with internal and external audits and inspections

Requirements

• Certificate or qualification in Food Safety, Hygiene or a related field
• Good knowledge of HACCP, food safety and sanitation standards
• Close attention to detail and sharp observation skills
• Good communication and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently and with other departments
• Proactive attitude and a strong commitment to hygiene, safety and quality
• Flexibility to work shifts, weekends and public holidays as required

Preferred qualifications

Experience in a similar role at a hotel or in another hospitality setting is listed as an asset.
