Rotating Machinery Technician

Preventive maintenance, repair, overhaul and troubleshooting of rotating equipment make up the Rotating Machinery Technician vacancy at QAFCO (Qatar Fertiliser Company) in Mesaieed, Qatar. Responsibilities

• Carries out routine and non-routine maintenance on steam and gas turbines, centrifugal and reciprocating compressors, pumps and their auxiliaries, covering preventive work, repair, overhaul and troubleshooting
• Checks the condition of pumps, compressors, turbines and motors through vibration readings, temperature checks and lubrication inspections, and reports unusual vibration, noise, temperature rise or leakage to the supervisor
• Helps dismantle and assemble rotating equipment, handling bearings, seals, couplings and precision components, and carries out soft foot correction and preliminary and final alignment with dial gauges and laser systems
• Uses micrometers, vernier calipers, dial indicators, feeler gauges and bore gauges to verify tolerances and assembly specifications
• Performs basic rigging and lifting with slings, shackles, chain blocks and hoists, following approved lifting plans
• Follows the permit and safety rules, including cold work permits, toolbox meetings, lock out/tag out, isolation standards, confined space and hazardous material guidelines, and QAFCO’s health, quality, safety, energy and environment procedures
• Cleans, inspects and refurbishes parts such as filters, strainers, oil systems and bearing housings, supports lubrication work, stores spare parts properly and keeps tools and their calibration schedules in order
• Leads contracted manpower during shutdowns, assists engineers and senior technicians in overhauls and turnarounds, and completes work notifications and feedback in SAP

Requirements

• Good knowledge of maintaining steam turbines and gas turbines, centrifugal and reciprocating compressors, couplings, bearing types, mechanical and dry gas seals, valves, exchangers, pressure relieving devices and lubricants
• Familiarity with engineering drawings, specifications and documentation
• Familiarity with precision measuring tools and the ability to use them accurately
• Ability to work independently and in a team, with strong communication, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
