Responsibilities

• Contributes to keeping the vessel available for deployment, safely and efficiently, as the Chief Engineer directs and within HMS policies and procedures and local legislation where applicable
• Carries out maintenance and housekeeping on deck, in the engine room and in the accommodation, plus any other vessel duties the Chief Engineer assigns
• Works safely, asks the Chief Engineer for guidance when in doubt before starting a task, follows the company safety management system and proposes ways to raise onboard safety
• Takes an active part in safety training such as onboard drills
• Stops work whenever a task seems unsafe by personal judgement, using the Stop Work procedure and Take 5, and informs the Master
• Reports occurrences that could cause injury, illness, pollution, defects or damage to the Chief Engineer or Master, following the Proactive and Near Miss Reporting procedure
• Inducts visitors, employees and others authorized by Svitzer to board the vessel when a Master, Deck Officer, Chief Engineer or Engineer, or Deck Rating is unavailable

Requirements

• III/4 Eng Watch Rating (Unlimited)
• Basic Safety Training (STCW A-VI/1)
• Security Training for Seafarers with Designated Security Duties (A-VI/6)
• Valid seafarer medical

Preferred qualifications

• Understanding of the English language
