Responsibilities
- Takes circuits, power systems and control systems through design, simulation and analysis, in new products and existing ones
- Produces detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and component specifications
- Checks system performance, reliability and safety through calculations and simulations
- Tests and validates electrical hardware and integrated systems, and debugs and resolves problems that surface in development, production and field deployment
- Teams up with mechanical engineers, software engineers and project managers at every stage of a product’s life
- Looks into new technologies, components and methods that could strengthen product capabilities
- Writes design specifications, test plans and reports, and keeps the work within relevant industry standards and safety regulations
Requirements
- A related field of study also meets the degree requirement
- Experience in electrical design and development
- Solid grasp of circuit theory, electromagnetics and control systems
- Proficiency with electrical CAD software such as Altium Designer, OrCAD or Eagle for schematic capture and PCB layout, plus experience with simulation tools such as SPICE and MATLAB/Simulink
- Familiarity with electrical components, sensors and actuators
- Knowledge of safety standards such as UL and CE, and of regulatory requirements
- Problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work independently and manage several tasks at once
Preferred qualifications
- That design experience gained in a relevant industry, for example power systems, industrial automation, automotive or electronics
