- Provides departments with buying services that meet their requirements, following procurement instructions and the day-to-day operations of the job
- Finds vendors for assigned commodities so materials are bought within budget and timeframe
- Sends requests for quotation to open vendor relationships, and issues purchase orders once three quotations are in, choosing on price, quality and delivery
- Checks that vendors keep to their contracts, to build their capability and hold quality
- Studies market trends so purchases keep to the needed quality
- Sends requests for proposals to vendors and processes the resulting requests
