Service work of medium to high complexity is carried out to work instructions and ABB guidelines. Alongside that, the engineer works with customers on the installed base to find ways of improving system and operational performance, and customer service is part of the daily routine.
Responsibilities
- Carries out complex field service work, diagnosing technical problems remotely or on site in the service categories and products the engineer is certified for
- Plans and prepares site work for the wider project team and manages the subcontractors on site
- Delivers service work to customer orders and expectations
- Supports customer retention by communicating timelines and expectations clearly
- Looks for new service business opportunities with customers and other ABB teams
- Coaches technicians and engineers and supervises complex site activities
Requirements
- Graduate engineer in instrumentation, electrical or an equivalent engineering degree
- Minimum 8 years of experience, including at least 5 years as a customer support, project or service engineer on System 800xA based safety systems, preferably in oil and gas or power and water
- Hands-on experience with System 800xA integrated control and safety systems, hardware and software, including AC800MHI library-based application development, project work and commissioning
- Knowledge of FSMS (functional safety management system)
- Knowledge of functional safety standards IEC61511 and IEC61508, with matching system engineering practice
- Hands-on experience with cyber security for 800xA based systems
- Hands-on experience in industrial networking, network switch configuration and communication protocols such as Modbus RTU and TCP and OPC
- An analytical, self-starting, resilient and adaptable approach, in line with ABB’s latest service and digital portfolio
Preferred qualifications
- Valid functional safety certifications, such as TUV FS Engineer or ABB certifications
