Responsibilities

• Runs and watches the washing, dry-cleaning and drying machines, topping up chemicals and emptying lint traps
• Matches dryer time and temperature to the fabrics in each load
• Examines items as they leave the machines, separating out stained or damaged ones for mending, spot cleaning, rewashing or disposal
• Removes lint and debris from dryer screens, dry-cleaning filters and drain traps after every load
• Folds finished items to the set size, by hand or machine, and puts them in clean linen carts
• Logs the items laundered
• Follows safety rules, reports accidents, injuries and unsafe conditions, and suggests improvements to efficiency or costs

Requirements

• Able to move, lift, carry, push and pull objects of up to 25 pounds unaided
• Able to stand, sit or walk for long stretches, up to a whole shift
• Able to get through narrow, confined or elevated spaces, and across sloping, uneven or slippery floors, stairs and service ramps
• Able to reach overhead and below the knees, with bending, twisting and stooping
• Visual checks of tools, equipment and machines to find defects
• Clean, professional uniform and appearance, and completed safety training and certifications
