Engineer - Managed Services

The Engineer – Managed Services vacancy at Convergint in Basra, Iraq, puts one engineer in charge of the security systems on site: their operation, maintenance, testing and hand-over to clients. The engineer also has to see that the networking, CCTV, ACS, IDS and power infrastructure is ready so everything runs smoothly.

What the managed services engineer job in Basra involves

Day to day, the engineer watches fault logs, traces faults to their root cause and directs technicians at site through the senior technicians. The listing names the Technical Maintenance Manager, Engineering Support, Finance, Pre-sales, Marketing, HR & Admin and Quality and Training as internal contacts, and main contractors, subcontractors and clients as external ones.

Responsibilities

• Monitors fault logs daily and identifies faults immediately, works with the client, IT, FM, AP, site resources and MVP to get them rectified, and analyzes root causes and reports on them
• Spots recurring issues, recommends remedial actions and makes sure they are carried out during PPMs and callouts, and completes records of every fault, PPM and callout
• Keeps existing systems connected to the relevant control room or security office, and maintains all system SUPs by applying firmware and security patches and keeping configurations uniform across the portfolio so functionality is optimized
• Looks after end-user passwords and security protocols as agreed with the client, tells the client about the extra features new firmware upgrades bring, and gives end users refresher training when the client asks or requires it
• Runs the networks behind the security systems and the computing environment around them, covering hardware, system and application software and configurations, and applies network security measures to IT standards so data, software and hardware stay protected
• Operates master consoles to monitor performance and coordinate network access, handles the routine starting up and shutting down of the networks, judges what adjustments are needed now and later, and keeps logs plus maintenance and repair records
• Manages technicians through implementation at site by way of the senior technicians, collects the daily progress reports sketched on shop drawings, proposes an alternative plan when changes appear, stays in contact with technicians during PPMs and callouts, and oversees the rectification of emergency breakdowns
• Creates test reports covering cabling, terminations and power management, updates shop drawings after site amendments and inspections, and completes service reports covering the present job, extra work and variations, including troubleshooting on hardware and software

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical and electronics, electronics and telecommunication, or a general IT degree with a physics background
• Exposure to all security systems disciplines on total or turn-around projects during those 3 years
• Certifications the listing names: Cisco CCNA, CCNP and BCNE, plus CCTV (Milestone, Genetec, Axis etc.), ACS (LENEL, KERISYS, PAXTON etc.), biometrics, barriers, bollards, road blockers, spike bumps, ANPR and video analytics
• Very good communication and hands-on technical skills, and a very good command of English
• Good computer skills, project management skills and people management skills
