Biology assistant professor jobs in Beirut: what the LAU faculty posts involve

The posts sit in the School of Arts and Sciences on the Beirut campus, with an expected start in Spring 2027 or Fall 2027. Appointees can collaborate with colleagues in experimental biology and clinical research across the university, a setting the ad presents as an interdisciplinary research community that is still growing.

Each field comes with its own profile. Immunology/Biotechnology applicants should be strong in experimental or applied research that bears on human health and disease. Computational Biology applicants need a solid grounding in bioinformatics, systems biology or data-driven methods for molecular and cellular processes. Ecology/Environmental Biology applicants should bring expertise in ecological modeling, conservation, biodiversity or environmental systems.

  • Takes part in developing and assessing the program, in academic advising, and in institutional or community service initiatives
  • Carries out service work at departmental and university level and for the profession at large
  • Picks up other duties the department may assign according to its needs and priorities

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Systems Biology, Immunology, Biotechnology or Ecology, or in a closely related field
  • A strong research record, with peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals and clear promise of winning outside research funding
  • Evidence of teaching excellence, or strong potential for it, at undergraduate and graduate level, especially in computational or quantitative biology
  • Dedication to student mentoring, diversity and an inclusive, collaborative academic setting
  • Willingness to work across disciplines with biologists, computer scientists and clinicians, both inside LAU and with partners around the world
  • Proficiency in Python, R or MATLAB, and a record of working with large biological datasets, in computational and quantitative fields

Preferred qualifications

  • Expertise in computational modeling and simulations, network biology, machine learning and AI applications in biology, systems biology, or genomics and transcriptomics, in computational and quantitative fields (the ad calls this highly desirable)
  • Research that builds on what the department already does well in genomics, systems biology, neuroscience or cancer biology, which the ad says it particularly encourages
