Senior Accountant

Senior accountant job details in Erbil

The post sits in the Finance Department and covers management accounting, from daily cash positions to annual statements. It also involves working with external auditors, tax advisors and regulators under supervision.

Responsibilities

• Leads accounting and financial reporting for several oil and gas projects, reviewing the general ledger, account coding, trial balance, fixed asset register, inventories, cost per well, AP and expenses
• Keeps accounts payable, GL, cost accounting, expense recognition, taxes and payroll accurate and complete
• Records bank and cash transactions on time, matches daily cash and bank balances to the GL, prepares monthly bank reconciliations, and reports and forecasts cash flow
• Drafts monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements for management review, plus internal and external reports built on source data
• Prepares the annual budget details and variance reports, and presents key findings to senior management
• Coordinates, under supervision, with external auditors, government auditors, tax advisors, the Iraq auditor and accountant and regulators so audit, tax and Iraq statutory deadlines are met
• Runs month-end closure, closes annual trial balances and supports internal and external audits
• Performs due diligence on accounting documents, supplier bank accounts and ultimate beneficiaries of payments, and handles intercompany eliminations and reconciliations

Requirements

• Extensive experience in management accounting, controllership and finance department roles
• Solid understanding of bookkeeping, accounting records and documents, workflow, internal controls, financial statements, financial reporting and audits
• Ability to meet management requests and deadlines accurately, including under pressure, and to improve processes
• Dependable team player
• English

• CCPA, CPA or CA qualification

• Kurdish and Arabic
