About the Career Path Planner

The planner places your current and target roles on the usual ladder for your field, estimates how long the move typically takes, and builds a checklist in three stages: build the skills, prove them with measurable results, and position yourself for the promotion or move.

When to use the Career Path Planner?

When you wonder where you stand relative to your career goal and how much time it will take. Useful for someone who wants to move from accountant to finance manager, for example, and needs to see the steps between the two positions.

How to use the Career Path Planner?

  1. Enter your current role, target role and years of experience.
  2. Choose the time you have and list your skills.
  3. Press “Create my plan”.
  4. Tick tasks off as you complete them; progress is saved on this device.

How to read the result

You get your position on the usual career ladder of your field and the distance to your goal, plus a plan in three stages: foundation, proof and positioning, each with measurable outputs.

Tips for a better result

  • Turn the outputs of each stage into dates in your calendar and review them monthly.
  • Add your current skills so they are removed from the list of what you still need to learn.
  • Discuss the plan with a manager or mentor in your field; they know the titles and levels at your employer.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Choosing an unrealistic time frame in which many levels are skipped.
  • Assuming the same ladder applies at every company; titles differ.
  • Making the plan and then never reviewing it after six months.

Note: The career ladder used is a common progression in the Arab job market, and titles may differ between employers.

Frequently asked questions

Are the ladder titles the same everywhere?
